INFORMATION
The Damariscotta Mills is one of Maine's oldest and most productive alewife fisheries. The stone fish ladder, which is the centerpiece of Damariscotta Mills was constructed in 1807 by the Towns of Nobleboro and Newcastle. The two towns have a committee to oversee the restoration projects and more. Below shows Newcastle's Members and the Fish Agent.
Each year, the ladder allows widows that reside in either town to sell a portion of the alewives to local fisherman of their choosing. Please call either the Nobleboro or Newcastle Town Office for more information.
